Damn protective behaviors hit home. Im so bad with it. My typical response to an awkward social experience in order to block out the bad feelings is to leave or avoid having to face that person again with a given time frame. Say I was talking to a coworker, and got stuck, I just go back to what I was doing, fake a problem that needs my attention, or make up an excuse to leave.
