What is the best way to desensitise/overcome stuttering? Hello, is anyone familiar with NLP and Neuro-Semantics? I'm reading Mastering Blocking and stuttering by Bob Bodenhammer. It's like a more in depth version of John Harrison stuttering hexagon, his NLP model stipulates stuttering is a learned behaviour caused by the "movies" we create in our heads and the meanings we give to our stuttering experiences and to overcome stuttering you need to move from a stuttering mindset to a fluency one by re-programming your thoughts and the images you create in your head before you stutter. It seems very technical and an in-depth analysis of one’s mind, so my question is it necessary to re-program my mind in this way to stop holding back/desensitize myself from stuttering especially without a trained therapist to guide me. For example, one of the exercises is to alter one of your stuttering memories to make it more positive by bringing other aspects of the memory like the room and people into the forefront of your mental image and the actual block ‘behind’ or in the background of the memory. The same way the shadow of an apple is behind the apple you need to mentally dissociate the stuttering block by bringing other positive aspects of the conversation/interaction into the forefront of the memory.
