Yes, this!! The waiting kills me, it's so bad. Saying something spontaneously is bad but "seeing the danger come closer" causes a different kind of panic and dread. I've also noticed what you said about "trying to calm down". I always heard and noticed that I can retry or take a breath if I need to, that I should calm myself down before speaking because it eases the tension in my body. But little did they know that I can't "just calm down" in these moments when I'm literally being consumed by panic and – like you also mentioned – don't even have the capacity to listen to others up to minutes before it's my turn.
