Getting Interrupted/Cut Off Hey everyone, was just wondering if anyone else felt like their stutter got worse over time from being interrupted pretty often. As a kid, i’d be excited to talk with my family as I come from a family of talkers and tried keeping up with them. As I was talking, I would often get interrupted by my father while having a block, almost as if he didn’t realize I wasn’t finished talking and just wanted to say whatever he had to say. He’s the kind of person to not listen to someone, and just waited for his turn to talk again. As expected it hurt as a kid, and eventually it happened so often that I kind of just gave up and would let it happen. My mom and sister would often tell him to stop and let me finish what I was saying, but if they weren’t around I would just give up in what I was trying to say. Up until about high school I never really had any secondary motions and that’s when they started developing. I never really asked myself why they would develop but I wonder if it has something to do with being interrupted. I’m 26 now, but I think I developed a fear of being cut off by people and now try to speak faster, as well as trying to avoid stuttering to prevent myself from being interrupted, and am only now understanding this.
