I think it does kind if help shape who we are, but it’s also dependent on out environments. For example, I was raised in a household that always felt sad whenever I stuttered and my extended family often avoided talking to me because they didn’t want to overcome the communication barrier (and was ahem... quite vocal about their lack of acceptance). Therefore, I now struggle with self-acceptance and I sometimes worry that my other relationships are only there because people feel bad for me or whatever.
