Pure speculation regarding Gareth Gates ongoing relapse issues, but my theory is he's become too accustomed to the set of techniques taught by the McGuire Program, such as costal breathing and elongating words. As these techniques lose their novelty status and become ineffective more often during certain scenarios, they begin to lose their effectiveness. This is similar to attention diversion mechanism that works wonders at the beginning (especially Delayed Auditory Devices), but eventually lose their abilities to continuously divert attention from the fear of communicating after the initial 'honeymoon period' has worn off.   I would be curious to the outcome if he started to use a broader range of techniques to maintain their novel status, as well as reconditioning his thinking and belief patterns.
