I’ve been there, wondering how I could possibly be successful as a stutterer. To an extent that is true. You have to play to your strengths and adjust to your weaknesses. I had a good career with a mild to moderate stutter. Part of my success was choosing good / humane companies (and leaving those that weren’t). That latter part is especially important. Your job of coding will help since it is not heavily reliant on verbal communication. I got into geology, in part, for that reason. I found that geology has a higher percentage of stutterers than the general population. But I also found that a lot of speaking was still involved. So that gets to another recommendation— find therapy tools that work for you. I went to Hollins in Virginia as an adult and found it very helpful. There were concrete tools I could use. It’s not perfect, but their gentle onset target was, and is, key for me. I can condition my voice so that I am fairly fluent when I practice a lot. Ongoing practice is the key. Some other techniques might work better for you. In addition, you will have to work on your self image. Do not fall into the trap that I did for so long and simply identify as a stutterer. That is a part of who you are, a big part, but not all. If you see your experience as a stutterer in the right light it can provide a unique growth opportunity. To address self image issues I recommend the Psycho-Cybernetics book. Very important. There are aspects in the book you can dismiss but the core message is vitally important to everyone. Get it. You will also need to grow a little stoicism, too, but that is more of an emotional coping mechanism. Good for everyone since life has it’s difficult moments, but more so with those with a disability like a stutter. A communication disability is especially painful since connecting with others is such an important part of being human and, therefore, to our mental health. You expressed that very well in your post. It won’t be easy. There is no silver bullet. You must take charge, which includes some of the elements I mentioned above. Good luck!
