Trying to find ways to describe stuttering to people. I deal with stuttering every day and I hate it. It has gotten better over the years but I still have a hard time talking properly, and I just want to find a way to describe it to some of my friends I've made on Discord. One way I can think to describe it would be... Let's say you're walking across a smooth road and are trying to get somewhere. Nothing is in your way, and everything is going fine until you reach a block in the road that you can't get past without exerting some major effort that will take awhile to do. You're getting annoyed at this point, only just wanting to get past the block but can't find another way around it. That's basically what stuttering feels like to me. Sure you can substitute words with ones that are similar, but sometimes we don't have that option and are forced to try and get past the block. What analogy would you guys use to describe stuttering? And do you think it would be enough to help a non stutterer to understand?
