I'm an SLP and I stutter. Fluency should never be the goal, as stuttering is a neurological difference and not curable. The goals are around making it easier to communicate with others, reducing avoidance behaviors, and giving you more control over your speech. As a result, moments of stuttering usually decrease and your fluency improves but anyone telling you they can make you 100% fluent is lying or misinformed. One of the big issues is that graduate school does not adequately prepare SLPs to treat this problem effectively and you really have to find someone who specializes in stuttering.
