There are 2 types of stutter - 1. repetitions/prolongations - a less severe/impactful type of dysfluency bc it means you are still talking, you aren’t trying to hide it from shame, and your listener knows what’s going on 2. Hard silent blocks. Indicator that you feel significant shame about having #1. Many “cheat” their way out of blocks by switching, avoiding, pretending to forget, etc. That explains why pretty much every blocker struggles with their name - and many have considered changing it in some form. Within this explanation lies the habits to develop to decrease blocking… let your repetitions be heard! Start by standing in front of mirror and doing voluntary repetitions, build up to simple phone calls, thrn in person. VR - picking a sound you do not struggle with, and add a b-b-brief rep that easily moves forward to next sound, and noticing that the world has not ended… If the listener is weird about that, then they have their own issues. (Compared to listeners being *understandably* weird about mystery silent blocks accompanied by odd facial contortions).
