Part of the reason more males are diagnosed with autism is because, up until about a decade ago, the diagnostic criteria did not include typically presenting female autism traits. Top universities are just now reevaluating their understanding of the spectrum to include many traits that are often “ the opposite” of the stereotypical “Asperger” traits.
