Fluency is a skill. It's learned. For many of us, so is our stutter. It developed over time. Some of us have added ticks and cluttering words to our fluency blocks. e.g. I initially used "um" to avoid blocks, but "um" ended up being incorporated into my fluency blocks. Those ticks and cluttering words were learned. When you think about it, I basically taught myself to use "um" in my speech. Broader view, *all* speech is learned. We're taught language and we continue to learn and develop this skill for years. To achieve fluency, I had to learn to speak fluently. I know my stutter isn't the same as everyone else's. Based on my fluency journey, it's hard to imagine a chemical solution replacing a learning solution.
