It’s hard living with a stutter, I think everyone here would agree. People live with it in different ways. My stutter is mild, most of my blocks are words with hard sounds. Like Facebook, the hard F sound to start it gets me just about every time. I’ve had it my entire life as well. When I was younger (currently 26) I got really nervous speaking and some teachers understood and would let me sit it out. Kids can be really cruel but eventually as time moves on they get used to it. In college, no one really mentioned it. While no one seemed to care it was still something I was self conscious about. I put my self in certain situations like being a club president my senior year of college and it helped. Now at work I give presentations as part of my job description. I found that while at work I rarely have blocks. I feel like if it’s something that I’m focused on and know really well I have the confidence to push through. I have my bad days though. The best advice I can give is don’t let it rule your life. Push yourself out of your comfort zone and if it happens own it! It can sometimes be a really interesting conversation starter. Just because we have trouble talking sometimes does not mean we are less than those that don’t! Others have suggested speech therapy and that might be a good way to go. It didn’t help me a whole lot but I didn’t have a lot of resources available to me. Hang in there, feel free to PM if you need someone to talk to.
