This is not medical advice, I'm not a doctor. This is just my own personal experience. Both of those medications have helped me. I have a severe stutter and I've been on both of those medications for less than a month now after other methods didn't work. My doctor was understandably reluctant to prescribe alprazolam though (since they're addictive) so he only gave me a few and a one-time prescription for them. However, the alprazolam helps much more for me, the citalopram has reduced my overall anxiety but not so much social anxiety. Still, I am stuttering less than I used to with citalopram. However, I'd still advise avoiding alprazolam and other benzos if you can. SSRIs can have some bad side effects too, so be careful. There are alternatives to SSRIs and benzos that reduce anxiety your doctor will know about and may help your stuttering, they didn't work for me but they may work for you. Edit: If you don't have anxiety, I don't recommend asking for SSRIs or benzos though, they'll just end up making you drowsy and likely not helping with your stuttering.
