I can’t say that it has taken away the stutter or that it got significantly better, but it made me very self-aware of bad habits in my speech that were a byproduct of stuttering, which made my speech worse. For example I tend to switch words mid sentence to avoid stuttering and i speed up the rate of my speech, those habits are hard to drop but now that I’m more aware of them I find myself doing it less. I also learned several techniques that are very useful specially in stressful situations like a job interview. I do need to use them on a daily basis to make it a habit but is really hard to get used to it. Overall I highly encourage anyone to take speech therapy not only they’ll teach you techniques but you also feel a sense of inclusivity and acceptance, if you get a good therapist. A therapy session is a place where you can express yourself freely without the fear of being mock or judge. I always leave my sessions feeling positive and much happier.
