Good, effective stuttering therapy is hard to find but it is out there. It can make a huge different so I wouldn't give up the search for someone who understands stuttering and won't simply work with you to reduce stuttering/focus on fluency. I treat those therapists as red flags who do not understand the issue of stuttering. My best advice to you is to try and find community. If you live in the US, I would highly encourage to go to the NSA's annual conference in July: https://westutter.org/conference/. Until then, you can see if there are any local chapters near you https://westutter.org/chapters/. Going through something like stuttering alone makes it much more difficult to get to where you want to be.
