Yup. I use filler words as well. “Um”, “like” and “you know” are keystones of my speech. This is a bit difficult for me because I work in corporate where I have to do a lot of talking and presenting and I’ve been told that by using those words I run the risk of not sounding confident or ‘unpolished’. So far my career hasn’t been hindered and people frequently acknowledge how smart and good I am at my job…but since I’m very ambitious, I don’t want the way I speak to be a reason I don’t get promoted or get labeled as not having ‘executive presence’. With that said, I’ve been trying to really calm myself down and slow down when I speak to reduce my reliance on these words. It mostly works unless it’s close to my period. For some reason when I’m about to start my cycle I experience an unusual amount of disfluency. Anyways, good luck and keep talking!
