It may not mean a lot, but a ton of us, myself included have felt very similarly to how you are describing. It definitely does get better, people stop being assholes, and you become more comfortable with yourself. I stutter, I'm also newly married, I've been teaching high school for a couple of years. Now my biggest worry about my stutter is that I'll pass it on to my kids whenever that time comes. You are not defined by your stutter, and it may seem hard right now, but a lot of that has to do with the maturity and empathy of the people around you. Your mom really shouldn't hit you for stuttering though, that would make me stutter worse due to the anxiety that would add.
