I have SD. I also lead a really quiet life, somewhat on purpose, somewhat because talking is exhausting and the sound of my voice ran off a lot of people. Its been since 2005 that it really hit hard but before that for years Id lose my voice for weeks or months, rest it and take one phonecall and it was gone again. I have to keep my sleep and health up (which is hard w a few illnesses) and keep stress down and selectively socialize so I can have a voice. Ive had a great voice, chatting w friends, went outside with them so they could smoke annnd nothing came out of my mouth. My voice can go out during a phone call and if i rest and try to get unfrazzled it comes back. Ive had my voice be fine for MONTHS of heavy talking and a quiet chat and it will disappear mid sentence. I did 9 months of speech therapy but I had always done silly voices and noises and thats why my speech pathologist said I got great benefit from it. Its idopathic and neurological and they are doing very little study on it because its not a very well diagnosed disease. It would make sense that a stutterer would have it. We have a few people in my SD support group that have dysTONIAs and tics and other similar disorders. What part of the country are you in? There might be a support group for you. Check out https://www.dysphonia.org/ and you can hear voice clips and look for the closest group.
