A very familiar story. I was also pretty outgoing. Stutter never stopped me from talking too much and annoying my teachers haha Sometimes I wish I had smooth speech. Most times I think stuttering, and a lot of different forms of nuerodiversity, can be an impressive source of strength and wisdom. It gives you a perspective on life that can only be developed through a lived experience. Encourage her to treat herself with kindness and patience. Praise her for her confidence and her individuality. Therapy, if it’s workable for her and for your family. Reading aloud and practicing smooth slow talking if you can. Encourage a love of words. Just for the love of god don’t tell her to “slow down” if she’s excited and stuttering. God damn it I felt so small whenever I was told to calm down or slow down because I was stuttering a lot. There’s nothing quite so invalidating as being told that people are listening to how you’re talking and not what you’re saying. Good luck! Children are astonishingly resilient and even if she didn’t stutter, there are always going to be mean kids at school. They are a constant. (Am also a teacher). Your care, love and patience will do wonders.
