Mental Imagery & Stuttering Over the course of a few years I've noticed some mental imagery going on when I'm stuttering or about to stutter. First image when I'm about to stutter on a word is sort of a "cord being unplugged" in my brain, and it often helps to instead picture a cord being plugged" The most vivid image I get however is a 'door that's repeatedly opening and closing, but never completely shut in either way'. I picture myself 'walking past the door and closing it on the other side', or simply 'strongly holding it up without it backing down on me'. This helps me a ton in presentations or in normal conversations when I feel a stuttering is coming up and I'm not being able to change the word or stop talking completely. I've thought about this very often and I was about to give this sort of advice to someone a while back, and I realized that's probably just me who's going to picture myself walking past a swinging door. Do you also get some mental image when you're about to stutter? Do you ignore it? Do you try to use the image to your advantage?
