How Can I Explain That I'm a Covert Stutterer Without People Getting Suspicious? I’m a covert stutterer. I’ve learned to mask it to the point where others don’t notice most of the time. But there is times when it gets out of control and it shows badly (sometimes even when i'm the most comfortable and relaxed) or when i have to speak in front of a large group of people or while presentations for example. when I tell someone that i newly met that I stutter, they often get suspicious or confused because i seem to be almost fluent while exchanging a few words. *Does anyone here have advice on how to explain this situation more effectively to people who might not know what covert stuttering is?* Any tips on communicating this without causing doubt or discomfort would be really helpful! *I’m now trying to explain this to my college professors so that I can request accommodations for presentations and other speaking-related tasks. I’m worried that if they don’t notice my stutter right away, they might think I’m faking it or making excuses.*
