Okay, so my commentt might be controversial but it's just my honest opinion. I kind of agree with the advisor. The advisor did not say that YOU CAN'T DO IT as many commenters below have assumed. The advisor advised that it might be challenging. In the end of the day, they don't know how you feel inside and it's your decision to make. You can do any career you like, but - some of them will be much much harder than others due to stutter. You simply need to calculate whether the mental pressure is worth it. And unless you really love the career, it's better to find something that fits better. Know your pros and cons and play the cards you're dealt. When I was a student, I worked in a fast-food chain for extra cash. They put me on the cash register to serve the customers. Every other day I would come home, wrap myself in a duvet and cry, hoping the next day never comes. As simple as that. You have 40 people (all age-groups) rushing & waiting in a queue and all attention is on you. (Of course, depends on how serious your stutter is) Now, I have a great career in the tech industry where I can exceed in domains that are not judged by my communication skills. Could I be a phone salesman? I don't think so.
