Another problem with the SpeechEasy device in my professional opinion is that the brain habituates to the signal and it expensively fails its intended use. They aren’t cheap. “Tweak the signal is gonna cost ya” to go back to the dispenser to adjust the settings… and it’s a maddening, pricey cycle. The device is basically Delayed Auditory Feedback (DAF) and Frequency Altered Feedback (FAF). The component that offers the most benefit for some people is the DAF. But don’t spend thousands of dollars for it. Instead get a free DAF App and a single mic-earphone setup. Play around with it. “DAF Speech” is a learned technique with DAF that results in vowel prolongation and slowed speech of the user. DAF effectively slows down the rate of speech. Alterations in prosody, which essentially DAF and Choral Speaking or speaking in unison with others do, often result in greater fluency for PWS. I have to put in this plug for Speech-Language Pathologists: Find one in your locality who works with stuttering and fluency problems. Some may have familiarity with DAF as it’s been around for over 75 years. In any case they can help PWS a lot. If the one in third grade didn’t resonate with you find another as an adult person who stutters.
