My stuttering is mostly gone! Abilify/Aripiprazole 32M. I've stuttered since I was 8 or 9 years old. I'd rate my degree of stuttering at a 5-7 out of 10, with lots of fluctuations over time and depending on the speaking situation. Last year I found a psychiatrist who prescribed me Abilify/Aripiprazole off label to address my stuttering. He recommended this medication because of the dopamine theory of the cause of stuttering: an excess of dopamine in medium spiny neurons in the basal ganglia of the brain leads to over-activity in cell function. These cells are associated with initiating motor function and perception of auditory timing. I started at 5mg with no side effects and tapered up to 15mg over a few months. At the 15mg mark, my stuttering stopped! I have been on this dosage for several months since then with no side effects at all. Now I rate my fluency at 9 or 9.5/10. I still have small hesitations or tiny blocks, but when I stop and try again I am easily fluent. This medication has changed my life for the better. I'm hoping to spread the word. If it worked so well for me, maybe it will make a difference for you too. I'm happy to answer any questions that I can. <3
