I use the McGuire Program self help book but never attended the course. Amazing program if you commit hard. Pair the program with John Harrison’s “Redefining Stuttering” book. The program basically requires you to search deep within yourself to know your triggers for stuttering, and all your approach/avoidance conflicts. What you have to understand is that the program is basically a door into self-discovery, of thinking and potential, etc. So keep expanding off the ideas of the program by buying books related to personality development, etc. And involve yourself in anything that pushes you toward your goals and what you feel your purpose is in life. Know that at first it will be frustrating because you will do a set of contacts, only to block on that same sound and have to go back to doing contacts on it again. It’s hard but eventually words and sounds will loosen, and your stuttering will become more situational. Keep doing deliberate disfluencies and disclosures until you reach the top of your feared situations. I’m in the process right now and have found the program a life-changer. It is possible that you will reach fluency by the end of the first set of contacts on the first day of the program. But then relapse will likely follow after that. Don’t be discouraged. Just respond by doing more contacts and deliberate disfluency.
