According to [this](https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S2666247721000543) research study (2022) approximately 60% of people who stutter could experience stuttering that is attributed to genetic factors. Some researchers only estimate it to be 10%, whereas others estimate it to be 70%. This would indicate that a majority of cases of developmental stuttering may have a genetic component. Additionally, researchers state that a genetic factor by itself can never lead to a stutter disorder, only if PWS develop an unhelpful belief/attitude where they perceive stuttering as a problem and to be avoided, can it lead to a stutter disorder.
