Stuttering doesn't make people dislike you. It makes you shy, which makes it harder to make friends. I had very few friends in middle school and highschool. After coming out of my shell somewhat in college, I had a good sized friend group, who I keep in touch with 25 years later. I moved to a new town with my wife and made friends here. Anyone who makes fun of your stutter is an asshole and probably makes fun of everyone for anything they can think of. Screw them. Thankfully, there really just aren't that many of those people around when you're an adult. It peaks in middle school, falls off a bit in high school, and by college, most people have other things to worry about than making fun of people who are different. So.... It's not unreasonable to say that nobody who skips out on you because of your stutter is someone who was a "great opportunity". That's literally a very low bar to clear. Anyone who is like "dude doesn't talk like a radio DJ, I'm out" ... is not going to be a good friend anyway.
