A technique that might help somebody. A technique that might help somebody I used to get the worst blocks and stutter horribly when I was in grade school and in my early high school days but my speech has greatly transformed since then. When I was in high school I remember making a huge jump in my speech. I never seen a speech therapist or anything but I used a certain technique albeit, may be silly to most of you , but it worked for me nonetheless. I played baseball in high school and I needed a way to practice my speech while making it efficient for me. I would lay down on my bed, and I had a counter app on my phone. If you don’t know what that is, it’s a app where you tap a button and it increases the counter. Ex 1..(tap)..2..(tap). Well I was desperate and forced myself to say 2000 sentences (spread across the day) using the counter. Meaning I would say a random sentence with perfect airflow and everything , tap the button and do it again all the way until I hit 2000. But the biggest thing that made a HUGE difference was I would have my right hand hanging off the side of the bed with the baseball, and I would throw the ball up and catch it with the same right hand, while I would say a sentence and tap the counter with my left hand. I made sure to always do it simultaneously. So I would say a sentence I thought up, tap the button with the left hand while throwing the ball up at the same time with the right. It HAS to be simultaneous. And I would do this hundreds of times a day (as I said, never in one sitting but rather dispersed). Everytime I did this my main focus was not dropping the ball, YOU HAVE TO KEEP 100% FOCUS ON THE BALL. Try to not even let your eyes leave it. Meaning since you can’t look at the counter you have to just press the button without looking. It’s easy just keep your finger over it, muscle memory will do the rest. After a while I can’t even explain it guys. It literally made a huge difference. Personally, it felt as though I trained my body to not even think when speaking. I would finish a session, and be like “I don’t even remember talking”. It was fucking hypnotic almost. I didn’t think about speaking after a while. I was always so anxious and always worried about stuttering and blocking for minutes straight as I used to. This trained my body to not only rapid fire my speech and bypass the speech delay, therefore weakening the neural pathway of the stutter over time. It trained me to not think when I speak. I would just speak when a thought played in my head. It was like a subconscious action. My motor functioning got so much better too. I played baseball like I said and I just reacted to things quicker and I was witty. I did 2000 sentences a day spread out and over the course of about 3 months. And it was the greatest decision of my life. I really hope this doesn’t get a crazy amount of downvotes because I know how skeptical and stern this community can be. But at least try it, maybe if your out of hope just give it a shot. It personally helped me, and I’m sorry if you think it’s silly. I’m open to any questions as well! Just wanted to share EDIT: I would also deliberately ONLY say sentences that had AT LEAST 3 or 4 of my problem words MINIMUM
