My husband (he stutters, not me) used text to speech for his dissertation defense. It was the only reasonable option, since he’d have to be giving long, technical answers to a lot of questions within a set time frame in a pretty high-pressure setting. It worked fine, but he didn’t particularly like it. At work he’d rather just text, e-mail, or talk. His boss and his coworkers are great. Sometimes when they are collaborating with other labs or departments, people can be weird, but his boss and coworkers help set the tone for how to respond and it’s generally fine. They mostly do Zoom meetings and he uses the chat feature when they do, and he doesn’t give presentations, but other than that he basically does what everybody else does.
