Mindset is the main reason for improvements in my speech. Before, I use to doubt my ability to speak fluently and feared embarrassment/judgment from others but now I have more confidence and optimism in my ability to speak fluently, which I developed through positive self-talk, listening to affirmations, and most importantly, seeking discomfort. Seeking discomfort is effective because it shows your brain that you ARE capable of overcoming uncomfortable situations such as those associated with speaking. You can seek discomfort by working on overcoming any uncomfortable situation, minor or major, related to speech or not related to speech. The important part is that overcoming that situation gives you confidence in yourself and your capabilities. If you can speak fluently alone, then you ARE capable of speaking fluently with others. You need to believe in yourself and convince your brain of this capability. I prefer to limit my use of techniques because I find they make me hyperfocus on my stutter/speech blocks and anticipate them more often, which causes me to stutter more/have more speech blocks in the long-term. In the past, using techniques also caused me to become dependent on them for fluency and therefore prevented me from developing natural fluency. However, having said that, there are 2 techniques that I have found helpful. The first one involves speaking with the rhythm of the syllables of the word. For example, with the word "internet", instead of saying the whole word at once, I break it up into its 3 syllables "in - ter - net" and speak it in that rhythm (I speak fast between each syllable so that I don't sound robotic). I also use subtle hand or finger movements with the rhythm to help maintain it. The second involves speaking in a gentle, soft, slow, and low tone, which I find relieves tension in my mouth and allows my words to flow out easier. Edit: as I am still working on fluency and my speech is gradually improving, I will be using these techniques less and less to reduce the dependence associated with them. I hope this helps! Feel free to ask any other questions and I will be happy to answer them.
