Everyone speaker has repetitions and prolongations. Some people have more. Some people develop anxiety about others hearing them, and then develop a sophisticated system of avoidance behaviors that ultimately makes the problem worse (blocking, word switching, fear, unwanted facial/body movements). The term for this is *covert stuttering*, and it’s generally what people are referring to when they speak of having a debilitating stutter.
