I feel similarly. I stopped trying to be fluent and focused on talking and not being fearful. I fully accepted my stutter around the age of 30. By accepted I mean talking about it, warning coworkers when my fluency gets worse. And, it got easier. Where I used to leave the house with my stutter being my #1 to #2 concerns of the day, it's way lower on the list of things to worry about. I feel like late college years, it diminished a lot. Then, maybe it was just because suddenly (with a family and bills to pay), it's just less important on my list of priorities.
