Speech therapy can make a dramatic impact on your fluency. There is a lot of poor speech therapy out there. Often times, our first experiences with speech therapy is through the public schools. This is not at all comparable to professional speech therapy by an SLP who specializes in stuttering. Sometimes it takes working with different fluency programs before you find one that works for you. And it takes dedication and effort as well. As in, "How do you get to Carnegie Hall" dedication and effort. I had a severe stutter for the first 25+ years of my life. I knew that I would always stutter. I was wrong.
