What you are describing is actually very similar to this new [research](https://www.researchgate.net/publication/353636923_THE_VARIABLE_RELEASE_THRESHOLD_VRT_HYPOTHESIS_OF_STUTTERING). The only way that non-stutterers and people who stutter can move speech muscles is by instructing command signals to move them (*aka forward flow*), however right before a speech block we switch our focus from that to triggers, reactions and unhelpful corrections. That study explains that, if the threshold becomes too high (*e.g., by pressure in the throat implying that a stutter might happen*), that is the moment we lose faith in focusing on the forward flow (*e.g., we need to speak more appropriate other than just having complete faith in the forward flow*) and we interrupt ourselves and switch our focus on other things (we could switch focus from forward flow to unhelpful corrections: *tension, timing articulation, speaking slower, doubt or fear like unsure what will happen if I do in that moment*)
