I think you may have a point there. I think it depends on the stutterer. Some stutterers may try harder in other aspects of life to compensate for their speech. Maybe they try harder in school, join more non-verbal clubs or activities, focus on their fitness/health, etc. But for other stutterers, they just shut down completely and they don't try harder in other aspects of life at all. Their too emotionally burnout to do any of that. They become reserved, preferring not to draw too much attention to themselves, dressing lowkey, and really just try to take each day at a time.
