Federal jury duty. I was chosen to hear about a case from the original pool of people (I usually get called in but just sit until I get sent home). We hear the case details and start weeding people out with conflicts. When they ask who can’t serve because of a disability, I raise my hand and for the life of me cannot say my juror number, I just cannot get it out. After some confusion, the judge told me to sit and they’ll call me up later. I went in the back room with the judge and some lawyers, guy was super super nice, asked a few questions about my speech (how long have I had it, is it permanent, etc) and said “No problem, you shouldn’t have to be here” and wrote me off not just for that jury duty, but any future Federal jury duty as well. I still haven’t been removed from state-level jury duty since I never get chosen from the waiting room, but jeez that’s a load-off. The federal case seemed like it would have been an intense, long one too.
