I personally believe speech therapy and medication just mask the root cause. They don’t solve it. But it’s important to mention that for extreme cases, an alternated speech might be help to get started. Speaking more fluently might start a positive feedback loop. What has helped me the most and just from a rational perspective, what I think helps most is your lifestyle choices. Exercise alone is proven by many global studies to be 1.5x more effective against anxiety and depression than the most effective medicine. Add a good circadian rhythm/ sleep patterns, good nutrition, and your general mental state will improve so much that an improvement in your stuttering, or at least how you’re dealing with it, is inevitable. A Keto diet for example has also shown to improve mental “illnesses” immensely. I don’t believe Keto is a healthy long-term strategy, but great to do for a few months to get rolling. Generally, cutting out ALL processed foods, sugars, and seed oils will do wonders for your body and mind! Lastly, I believe self-reflection (journaling, see Stoic philosophy) and practicing gratitude help a lot too. The difference it makes for me even on a weekly basis are tremendous.
