I'm in my third year of college pursuing a double major in electrical and computer engineering. My first year and a half were outright depressing. My roommates sucked, and I barely spoke to anyone. The summer between my freshman and sophomore year, I went to a very intensive speech therapy program and had about 6 months of perfect fluency. But it didn't change much. I still wasn't talking to people. Thjs woke me up to the fact that, despite the stuttering being the surface level issue, my confidence and social skills are a whole separate issue that needs to be addressed separately from my stutter. While my fluency from the speech therapy was wearing off, I was forcing myself into social situations that I normally wouldn't have. I met people, made friends, and ultimately even inadvertently joined a fraternity, which was probably one of the best things I ever did. There's still a long, long way for me to go, but life is much better now, at least socially. The next big hurdle I'm trying to tackle is the whole "girls" thing. We'll see how that turns out.
