I had a very similar experience for many years and have been able to move past it. This is the advice I got from SLP’s who specialize in dysfluency - basically do the opposite of what you are doing. Practice talking in mirror with voluntary repetitions, disclose to strangers, begin talking slowly and on an exhale, and allow yourself to enunciate while using whatever tone you see fit.
