I think the contrary, speech therapy mostly help to people with a severe stutter. People with light to moderate stutter benefit less from therapy. So maybe it wouldn't help you as you think it would. Again, this is mostly from my own experience and the experience of many people from the community in my country. And I'm sure that there are exceptions, but as you said living in the past won't advance you forward.
