Big presentation tomorrow. I am a Resident Advisor in college and tomorrow I have to make a 15 minute speech presenting my case for being rehired for next year. I just practiced one full run through and it was exactly 15 minutes, which I’m happy about because I rushed through it, so I hope that number goes up in the next run throughs because that will be a sign that I’m speaking slower and thus am more confident and stuttering less. Fingers crossed! I’ll post live updates as I practice more and more. :) **FIRST RUN THROUGH: 15 mins, speaking fast and pretty tense** **----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------** **SECOND RUN THROUGH: 15 mins again, more of the same as last time but a little better! Need to keep at it** **----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------** **THIRD RUN THROUGH: 15 mins AGAIN, but I spoke a lot better. I tried pacing up and down instead of just standing there like a politician and it helped! I also need to get what I'm saying down so I don't miss something totally or say the same thing five times! I'm gonna take a break and get the tension out, 4TH run through soon!** **----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------** **FOURTH RUN THROUGH: 15 mins** ***AGAIN,*** **but it was my best one yet!** **----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------** **FIFTH RUN THROUGH: 8 MINS, practiced in front of my friend, totally fucked it up, was a stuttering mess and started sweating. Fuck me.** **----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------** **UPDATE: its 11:30 PM and I'm gonna clear my head and take a break. My presentation is in 12 hours so gonna call it a night and work tomorrow morning!** **----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------** **10 AM next day: just went through another run through that was 12 mins! I realized that the more I look up and straight, the less I stutter so gonna try that!** **----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------** **LAST RUN THROUGH: that was my best one yet! I spoke in a softer tone that made the words come off smoother and less stutter-y! Hopefully I can carry this into the real thing, which is in 30 mins!** **----------------------------------------------AFTER THE PRESENTATION-------------------------------------------------** **Presentation went pretty well, still stuttered some but that is totally natural, I never expected to go full 100% anyways. It was much better than any of my practice runs, which is good because I felt I was the best when it mattered. That last run through definitely was the reason I did well, because I controlled my volume and thus, my pace, timing, level of calmness were a lot better. I do feel like because I was so focused on speaking smoothly, I didn't really smile as much, but whatever, I think I did pretty. well. My content was great as expected, and my oration was pretty decent too.**
