>So a friend stutters and I read online that there is absolutely no cure for stuttering, you can just learn tips to manage it. Her parents want her to do this course thing that apparently “cures” it. Is this a load of bull and a scam? I’ve tried explaining to them that it won’t fully go away but they seem to think it will. Firstly, research states that 80% outgrow stuttering, although some newer research books that I read, state that it's higher and up to 89%. In one book it states that until 12 years old, 55% outgrow stuttering and then the older you are and the longer you have a stutter problem, the less people will outgrow stuttering. Outgrowing stuttering as an adult happens rarely. For example, in my family 2 people outgrew stuttering as an adult and two PhD stutter researchers also outgrew stuttering as an adult so it's definitely possible but again, statistics show that it's rare. Research examples are (more than 1000 pages): David Ward-Stuttering and Cluttering\_ Frameworks for Understanding and Treatment-Psychology Press Ehud Yairi\_ Carol H.
