I agree. My father was a pretty much a Cornell educated useless POS that couldn’t be bothered to pay child support for his three kids. Once, when he was asking me a question and didn’t like answer I was giving, he said, “Bobby, I know when your lyyyiiing”. He thought he was being really insightful and witty. Real helpful! Another time, when I finally came out of the closet about my stutter, very tentatively, he promptly told me the story of how Demosthenes “cured” his stutter by talking over the sound of waves at the seashore with pebbles in his mouth. Again, real helpful. So we have to deal with this sh!# from idiots. One of the best things you can do with this reality is to develop more empathy for others and their challenges. That’s all I can offer.
