I think for me, the depression and stuttering are unrelated in that my depression isn't caused by my stuttering. 5-htp and SSRIs both increase the level of serotonin in the body/brain. But as far as I understand it, 5-htp increases synthesis of serotonin in the brain whereas SSRIs decrease the amt of serotonin that is 'absorbed' (reuptake).
