Nothing to lose, except being told not to do something that works. Maintaining fluency by using synonyms / alternate words provides positive reinforcement and can retrain the brain into fluent speaking. Voluntarily stuttering is likely to cause negative reinforcement, strengthening the stuttering “habit” in the brain.
