Speech therapy is like teaching adults how to swim in the kids pool The idea of sitting with someone who’s paid to listen to you, and give you all the time in the world to finish your sentence, with zero judgment takes the fear and the pressure out of the equation. And thats what makes it ineffective. You can’t learn how to swim in a shallow pool.not fearing of drowning would make it easier for you to stay relaxed and float but when you realise your feet can’t touch the ground you’ll start panicking and losing control. In my 4 attempts with speech therapy at 4 different ages i went from a severe stutterer to a 100% fluent in a few sessions within the comfort of the therapy office. Every time we could finish the treatment programme in less than a month because stuttering disappears when the environment is understanding and ideal for a pws But the moment i go out it takes me back to square zero, stuttering literally on every word and every sentence. I spent thousands of dollars on therapies because this is what everybody told me to do including doctors and family and friends. Some people say that it worked for them but everyone is different and i am totally convinced now that speech therapy isn’t for me I always try to practice the techniques but never in my life i had the chance to apply them in a real life situation
