Speech therapists are often not great for stutters(they may work well for other speech pathologies) and they are not even close to being the be all and end all of stuttering support. They typically apply rote physical solutions to what is often a very complex issue with deep psychological causes. In my experience they rarely deal with the underlying psychological issues that cause or exacerbate the stuttering and therefore fail miserably. The op made some great points, thanks for sharing. Edited my reply in an effort to stop triggering nukefudge who appears to be a rather aggro speech therapist.
