In highschool everyone had to take a language and the required tests were all spoken, my stutter was a little worse than it is now BUT I did take sign language solely for the option of not speaking publicly! I’m now pretty fluent (rusty here and there) and I’ve learned so much about deaf culture! If you are interested I’d say go for it but also keep the people the language was for in mind.
