My stutter is mild at worst now but when I was younger it was debilitating. As others have said, employment was difficult. But basically everything was difficult. Nowadays, I'm 46, it's people assuming I don't know a certain word, or am not proficient, in my second language when I block. An unfortunate side affect. Although I'm very fluent in my second language, people will start talking to me in unintelligible English, ruining any chance of a meaningful conversation.
